Three EDGE Contracts
EDGE entity SIGN4L, a regional leader in developing agile, adaptive and reliable electronic warfare and cyber solutions, was awarded three contracts to deliver its UAE-made products both locally and internationally, providing customers with unparalleled safety and mission success.
The agreements were announced in conjunction with ISNR Abu Dhabi.

The first two international deals mandate SIGN4L to export a number of its V-Protect radio frequency (RF) communication jamming systems, and WIFINDER homeland security solutions. While V-Protect is primarily deployed for convoy protection to safeguard VIPs, presidential guards, diplomats, and military and civil personnel in conflicted zones, WIFINDER is an integrated solution with a wide range of features that can be used by law enforcement and security personnel, making it a significant tool in the fight against serious organised crime and terrorism.
These contracts marked SIGN4L’s first international export deals outside of the Gulf Cooperation Council region and will be delivered in the second half of 2022.

Through exporting “Made in the UAE” products globally, EDGE and SIGN4L are contributing to “Operation 300bn” set out by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT).
To enhance public safety, the third agreement will see a local homeland security entity take possession of SIGN4L’s Activecell solution, a cellular signal analysis system that offers situational awareness capabilities. SIGN4L will manufacture and supply the systems, with deliveries under the new contract expected to be completed by Q4 2022.

Waleid Al Mesmari, Senior Vice President, Electronic Warfare & Cyber Technologies – EDGE, said, “We feel a huge sense of pride at signing these three contracts, as they are a testament to our commitment to developing superior solutions that bolster national defence and further afield to key markets for export. This contract confirms the importance of homeland security and reflects the extremely high standard set by SIGN4L and EDGE.”

Encryption Solution
Another EDGE entity KATIM, a leader in the development of innovative and ultra-secure communication solutions, unveiled KATIM Gateway 9011 at the exhibition.
Having recently joined EDGE, the company is expanding its portfolio of future-proof post-quantum network security platforms. Designed to defend the world’s most sensitive data, networks and assets, KATIM Gateway 9011 is built with UAE national crypto suite application-aware encryption, and features a powerful hardware with full software programmability for future use cases.

Also on display at the event was the KATIM X2, a 5G ultra-secure smartphone for government leaders, top executives, and individuals and teams working on sensitive operations, ensuring the strict preservation of information confidentiality; KATIM R01, a ruggedised smart phone for critical communications in the harshest field conditions; as well as the KATIM Application Suite.

Waleid Al Mesmari said, “Offering an effective line of defence to counter the growing increase of data-in-transit interference, KATIM Gateway 9011 is a government-grade encryption solution that protects the most sensitive and mission-critical data, enabling secure communications for all personnel and organisations that require uncompromising security.”

Proof House
A visit to the Abu Dhabi Proof House at the Tawazun Industrial Park (TIP) stand at ISNR revealed the extent of its services and advanced capabilities in testing and qualification of safety of firearms, ammunition, body armour and armoured vehicles.
The Proof House, an integral part of the TIP Testing and Qualification Centre (TQC), uses cutting-edge technology to test and certify small arms through to automatic weapons, which puts it among the world’s top test centres.

The Proof House conducts testing to international hard ballistic standards to measure the effectiveness of ballistic protective solutions in resisting penetration from bullets and fragments. Proof House is able to test and verify bulletproof body armour for resistance according to NIJ Standard 0101.04 Class II, III-A, III and IV to meet the growing demand from the armed forces and other law enforcement and security organisations. They have expanded their capabilities to include NATO STANAG 4569 and AEP-55 Vol. 1 Level IV for military armour.

Shareef Hashim Al Hashimi, Chairman of TIP, said, “Abu Dhabi Proof House has been playing a crucial role in ensuring safety of firearms and ammunition in the UAE, thanks to its capabilities and to the UAE’s membership to the CIP.”

The UAE is a member of the Brussels-based Commission Internationale Permanente Pour l`Epreuve des Armes à Feu portatives (CIP). Accordingly, the Proof House tests and certifies all UAE-made weapons to ensure that they meet all safety requirements for international markets. This includes all weapons from small calibre hand guns to big bore sniper rifles. Every weapon is checked and no less than two rounds are fired from every barrel to ensure that they reach the required CIP safety standards.

Cyber Security Lab
TIP also showcased its Cyber Security Laboratory, Watheq.
Watheq houses a team of experts dedicated to providing high-impact capabilities in cybersecurity across the entire attack surface and throughout the complete life cycle of cybersecurity products and systems.
“Watheq meets the rising demand for cyber security among government and private businesses and keeps current with the rapid technological changes in the world,” said Shareef Hashim Al Hashimi, Chairman of TIP.

Watheq is based at the TIP Testing and Qualification Centre and works to discover and mitigate exploits in cyber and physical security systems and products. The Lab conducts security testing and validation using state-of-the-art expertise and cutting-edge laboratory equipment.

UAEU Projects
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) participated for the first time in the event.
Prof. Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research, said,  “It was an opportunity to present the latest innovations and security solutions that UAEU students worked on, and highlighted the best practices in technologies, robotics and artificial intelligence.”

The university presented a number of projects in the field of security, including, “The Internet of Things,” which sheds light on the emerging challenge of security communications between the fields of information technology and operation technology, and the latest research in this field for improving industry security from a social and technical perspective.

The second project was “Metaverse” technology, known as “Second Life” and shed light on the technology-related security and privacy issues it presents and the virtual universe that uses augmented reality and artificial intelligence as well.
The third project addressed the design of wave breakers against tsunami waves.
