In an interview with Nation Shield, Ivor Ichikowitz, Executive Chairman, Paramount Group said that the company is committed to building and keeping local capability and provide economically sustainable defence solutions to the regional defence organisations. He added that Paramount’s products address the need for combating solutions for the so-called ‘Guerrilla warfare’ or evolving asymmetric conflict with its experience in the African Market.

“For the last 25-years, we have experienced asymmetric conflict or ‘guerrilla conflicts’ in Africa, which presents several challenges to the government. In this kind of conflict, you are not sure who are your enemies and what capabilities you need when they do strike. Our products are designed keeping in mind these challenges,” Ivor said.
“Africa is today the front line in the fight against terrorism and fundamentalism, and governments in the continent are expanding defence investment,” he opined.
According to Ivor, Middle East is one of the most matured defence market in the world, but it has always procured equipment for conventional warfare, which is where Paramount brings value with its products that address region-specific needs.
“We take complex systems and create innovative solutions that answer customer requirements. We have been working with governments of Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, Mali, to name a few,” he said.
The South African defence group also provides turnkey air force capability building, from the training, technology to operations phase.
Paramount is highlighting its light-strike aircraft in the find, fix and finish category - Mwari platform - at the show.
The company is seeking to find potential users for the platform and is in discussions with partners and players in the region.
