Saab Awarded Key Contract in Port of Fujairah
Saab has been awarded a contract to implement a Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS) for the Port of Fujairah, along with a five-year maintenance agreement.
The contract was recently signed at an event that was attended by Khalil Ebraheim, CFO, Jack van Gelderen, Director Business Development Saab, Capt. Mousa Morad, Managing Director, Capt. Taleb Alyammahi, Dy Harbour Master, Girish Joshi, Dy CFO, and Hamzah Alraeesi, Dy Manager – Service and Procurement.
The VTMIS allows the Port Control Centre to actively monitor and organise the vessel traffic in the port and make ship movements safe and more efficient. The layout of the port with large anchorage areas in front of it, poses a challenging environment. The diverse activities, such as cargo operations, bunkering, storing, crew changes and repairs, can have conflicting traffic patterns.
Uniquely located, the Port of Fujairah is the only major port on the east side of the UAE that is accessible without sailing the Strait of Hormuz. Over the years, Fujairah has established a position as one of the world’s premier bunkering locations, and one of the major oil storage hubs worldwide.
Dubai-based Elcome International will be the subcontractor responsible for local support of installation, training and maintenance. The system is scheduled to go operational before the start of Q3 in 2020.
