iXblue to Equip Future French Navy Supply Vessels
iXblue was recently selected by Naval Group to provide navigation systems to the four future tankers for the French Navy. The company’s Phins navigation systems and Netans navigation data distribution & computation systems will equip the future logistics support vessels, as part of the Logistics Fleet programme ‘Flotte Logistique’ (FLOTLOG) led by the European Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) on behalf of the French Defense Procurement Agency, DGA, and its Italian counterpart, NAVARM.
“The Bâtiments Ravitailleurs de Forces (BRF) are an essential strategic component of the naval operations of France and its allies. They will enable the French Navy to operate at sea in theatres of operations far from the mainland or from support bases,” explained Benoît Kerouanton, Head of iXblue’s Navigation Division.
“Reliable, resilient and high-performance navigational data is, therefore, essential to the success of the operations of these ships, on which the autonomy of French Navy combat vessels and aircraft depends. Our Phins navigation systems and our Netans navigation data distribution & computation systems satisfy this need for reliability and performance perfectly, whatever the environment, including in GNSS-denied situations. It is a source of pride for our company to have been selected by Naval Group and to continue to play a role in France’s defence capacity by providing navigation systems to these four new BRFs,” he added.
High Accuracy
Phins Inertial Navigation System (INS) is a subsea INS providing position, true heading, attitude, speed, depth and heave. Its high-accuracy inertial measurement unit is coupled with an embedded digital signal processor that runs an advanced Kalman filter.
Phins Subsea can be pre-assembled and pre-calibrated with a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), making it a plug-and-play solution for highly accurate navigation. Features include all-in-one high-accuracy 3D positioning with heading, roll and pitch; Fibre-Optic Gyroscope (FOG), with unique strap-down technology; Multiple aidings are available: (DVL, USBL, LBL, RAMSES, GPS, depth sensor); and an Ethernet, web server (GUI).
While the Netans navigation data distribution systems (NDDS) acquires controls and processes all navigation sensors data and distributes the consolidated navigation information to the external systems. It acts as a consistent common reference system, which will ensure that all parts of the system run with the same navigation data.
