Armis The Tactical Trucks of Tomorrow

Partner of the armies since 1898, Arquus is the first provider of land mobility solutions of the French Army, with more than 25,000 vehicles in service, including 10,000 logistics and tactical trucks. A specialist of military transport, the company has built its reputation on the GBC8KT, GBC180, TRM2000, TRM4000 and TRM10000, the VLRA and Sherpa Medium, which have been carrying a large part of the Army’s logistics and systems during the last decades.

In order to further fulfil the future needs of the armed forces’ tactical and logistical carrier fleets, Arquus has developed a new range of trucks using its own funds. The whole family is built on the same model. This unique range therefore reduces training for the manufacturers and maintenance costs and it also makes it easier to obtain spare parts.

Composed of three specifically military 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 vehicles, the Armis range is a family designed, developed and produced in France, specifically tailored to the needs of the French armed forces.

It brings together around Arquus the know-how of many companies, including numerous SMEs, in the French automotive industry. The Armis range is thus able to integrate the entire French industrial fabric, from Bourg-en-Bresse to Limoges and from Blainville to Marolles-en-Hurepoix.

Design Choices
The military trucks of the new Armis range are fitted with recent technologies, adapted to the operational needs and proven in the most demanding situations. These technologies, developed in Arquus’ R&D centres, provide the Armis 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 with optimal mobility on all grounds, limited fuel consumption and high resistance, which guarantee optimal uptime and low cost of ownership.

The Armis can be equipped with the automation solutions being developed by Arquus, such as platooning and automatic convoys. They may be fitted with the Group’s most innovative solutions in the fields of energy optimisation and maintenance.

Many Configurations
Versatile, the Armis new generation vehicles can fulfil all logistical and tactical missions of the Army, from troop, systems, water tank or mobile workshop transport to vehicle repair and tow truck. Compatible with all the Scorpion equipment, it accommodates new generation communication and information systems, as well as armament such as the Hornet Remote-Controlled Weapon System, selected by the French Army as common equipment for all the vehicles of the Scorpion programme. The Armis 4x4 and 6x6 are equipped with specific variants of the Griffon and Jaguar vehicles’ engines. Griffon and Jaguar being the new combat vehicles of the French Army.

Modular, the Armis military trucks are available in several configurations, allowing for effectiveness, simplicity of use and tactical flexibility for the commander on the field. Depending on the mission at hand, they can be equipped with non-protected or protected cabins, compliant with Stanag 4569.

They are able to adapt to operational needs and the threats encountered on the battlefield.

Three Versions
Built on fully military drivelines, the Armis 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 are reliable, dependable and robust, able to overcome the most demanding terrains and conditions. They are adapted to long operational deployments and complex missions, with reduced maintenance needs.

Armis 6X6
With its upgraded and hardened chassis, the Armis 6x6 is at ease off-roading and crossing even the most difficult terrain. It is equipped with an 11L engine with 460 horsepower (euro 5) which allows it to clear 50 per cent ramps. Close to the Jaguar EBRC engine, this engine provides it with great agility and enables it to accompany the latest generation of combat vehicles on the battlefield. Its gearbox, equipped with the Ultra-Low Crawler option, enables it to stop safely on slopes. Brake assist helps to save the main brakes on steep slopes.

Rustic and enduring, the Armis 6x6 is suitable for long deployments, complex missions and harsh environments with reduced maintenance requirements. It is able to fulfil a wide range of logistical and tactical missions for the benefit of armies. Its multifunction platform is capable of transporting personnel in a secure and ergonomic way, cargo, systems or 10 or 15-foot shelters. Modular, it can support numerous versions and configurations, ensuring efficiency, ease of use and tactical freedom for the commander in the field. The 6×6 version dimensions allow it to be transported on an Airbus A400M tactical transport aircraft.

The Armis 6x6 can be upgraded over time to adapt to the mission profile and the theatre of operations, as well as to the evolution of threats encountered. The truck is air-transportable and rail-transportable.

Its cabin can accommodate up to three 95th percentile seats. It is configured to Army standards, with weapon mounts or covers, accommodation for communication systems as well as for backpacks, water packs and other equipment. The cabin is equipped with screens to manage remote-controlled weapon systems (RCWS) and Battlefield Management Systems (BMS).

The Armis 6x6 can accommodate a large variety of weaponry, from manual circulars to Arquus’ Hornet range of RCWS, selected by the French Army to equip the new combat vehicles of the Scorpion programme.

The vehicle can be integrated into the Scorpion bubble and is designed to accommodate the latest-generation communication and information systems.

The Armis 6x6 incorporates selected innovations that are relevant to the battlefield, proven in all conditions, and deliver significant energy and maintenance savings.

It is equipped with ATC (Automatic Traction Control), a technology developed by the Volvo group that Arquus is able to offer for all its ranges. ATC automatically manages the engagement of the axles in order to optimise the mobility of the vehicle, allowing very high capacities at the best operating cost. The driver retains the decision, with the possibility of engaging the differential locks manually. This technology ensures better vehicle handling, fuel savings and reduced stress on axles and tyres.

The Armis 6x6 incorporates modern road safety technologies (ADAS, ABS/EBS, ESP), which lighten the pilot’s workload and allow him to focus on his mission.

Armis 8x8
At Eurosatory 2022, Arquus presented Armis 8x8 in its protected tanker configuration, equipped with an 18m3 tank supplied by Titan Defense. Next to the truck was a driving simulator developed by ECA (French simulator providers), whose parameters have been adapted to the military environment, in order to illustrate the training capabilities of Arquus.

This coherent set of equipment allows for the best possible exchange on the future of land logistics. The Armis 8x8 at Eurosatory was also equipped with a Hornet Lite RCWS for close-range self-protection.

Armis 8X8 also has a version with a Stanag 4569-compliant ballistic, mine and improvised explosive device (IED)-protected cabin. Its architecture with a remote cabin gives it the highest level of protection (both mines and IEDs as well as ballistic threats), a protection which can be upgraded depending on the mission at hand. The Armis 6x6 has a common cabin with the 8x8 (sheet metal or armoured) to facilitate vehicle handling and maintenance.

Armis 4x4
Just like the 6x6 and 8x8 models, Armis 4x4 is also built on the same fully military drivelines, reliable, from the same family. The three chassis are dependable and robust. It also accommodates new-generation communication and information systems, as well as armament such as the Hornet RCWS (remote-controlled weapon system) selected by the French Army as common equipment for all vehicles of the Scorpion programme. Hence, the Armis 4x4 and 6x6 are equipped with specific variants of the VBMR Griffon’s and EBRC Jaguar’s engines.

At the request of the customer, the Armis trucks can be equipped with a light, unprotected cab or a full armoured compartment with bulletproof protection.

Network Benefit
The Armis can be equipped with HUMS (Health and Usage Monitoring Systems) in order to allow predictive maintenance operations and to simplify fleet management. This use of HUMS takes advantage of the EVTA Vérité, a tactical evaluation recently conducted successfully with the SIMMT (Integrated Structure in charge of the Maintenance in Operational Conditions of the Army equipment) on an Army VAB (Véhicule de l’Avant Blindé) fleet.

The maintenance of the Armis range benefits from the Arquus network, in particular the Garchizy HUB which has the capacity to send parts in record time. It covers the whole of France, including overseas, and places each Army regiment less than 15 minutes from a point of service. Thus, Arquus stands by the Armies and provides them a truck built for military use.
