RAFAEL Exhibits Array of Defence Solutions and Innovative Tech

At the recently concluded and IDEX NAVDEX 2023, RAFAEL completed a unique live fire demonstration with successful interception rates. This was following RAFAEL TYPHOON RCWS’ successful demonstration of Counter-UAS (C-UAS) capabilities in a series of tests and scenarios conducted recently.

RAFAEL’s TYPHOON Mk30-c and TYPHOON 25 mm class (in service with several navies around the world, including the U.S. navy) are a robust solution for airborne, marine, and shore-based threats, including C-UAS.
In late 2022, the company announced that it had been awarded a contract with a leading Asian navy for its TYPHOON Mk30-c, as well as the commissioning of its TYPHOON and mini-TYPHOON RCWS onboard FAIC-M / SHALDAG Mk5 vessels in the Philippine navy as part of a complete RAFAEL combat suite.

TYPHOON RCWS also recently demonstrated its improved C-UAS capabilities using AI-powered Automatic Fire Correction and ATR to effectively defeat small and medium UAS. This is all made possible by incorporating a diverse mix of synchronised smart multi-spectral sensors, weapons, and intelligent effectors that translate to high hit accuracies.

RAFAEL’s new Naval SPIKE NLOS (non-line-of-sight) 6th Generation missiles were also showcased at NAVDEX. These new missiles can turn any OPV or patrol boat into a highly effective combat vessel, with advanced capabilities against all naval and coastal threats. Naval SPIKE NLOS provides pinpoint accuracy with a maximum range of 32 km, using electro-optical guidance and advanced fire control. This combat-proven system is operational in various navies worldwide and is compatible with a range of warheads, including High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT), Penetration Blast Fragmentation (PBF), with warhead detonation control, and fragmentation. SPIKE family systems have been sold to 39 countries worldwide, including 19 NATO countries.

Another innovative system showcased was the C-GEM shipborne off-board RF Active Decoy (RFAD) system, which protects naval vessels from anti-ship missiles through electromagnetic spectrum manipulation. C-GEM jams and deceives threats from multiple directions, independent of ship manoeuvres.

Spotlight on IRON BEAM and NMT
Furthermore, RAFAEL exhibited some solutions for the first time at the UAE, including the IRON BEAM high energy laser weapon system (HELWS). It  is designed to augment the capabilities of air defence systems like the IRON DOME.
Beyond the array of advanced air defence solutions like the DRONE DOME and the SPYDER, RAFAEL has expanded its portfolio and upgraded systems to meet emerging threats. The SPYDER air defence system has been upgraded to allow for the counter ballistic missile capability through an extended range of the Derby LR missile.

RAFAEL’s NLOS Mission Task Force (NMT), which utilizes the world’s first 6th generation missile, the SPIKE NLOS, was also showcased. It was displayed at the RAFAEL booth alongside manned and unmanned systems that are supported by Artificial Intelligence, UAS  management systems, and robotics, which allow for situational awareness and flexibility for any force in the complex modern battlespace. The display also featured new, unique capabilities that RAFAEL has developed and is offering for remote controlled weapon stations like the SAMSON.

Space Portfolio
RAFAEL’s focus at IDEX was also highlighted by the company’s new space portfolio. The research and development of new space capabilities was represented through the LITESAT electro-optical earth observation system, which functions as a microsatellite to provide high-resolution, geospatial data.

Since the signing of the Abraham Accords, RAFAEL has embraced the formalisation of regional partnerships in the Gulf.  This partnership has involved close work on business opportunities and participation in both local and global exhibitions in the region and within the UAE. Since then, RAFAEL has continued building and deepening ties based on a shared vision of staying at the cutting-edge and finding the most advanced solutions to the threats that effect the region.

Combat-proven Systems
RAFAEL also exhibited an array of defence solutions and innovative technologies. These included:
DRONE DOME: An innovative end-to-end, combat-proven counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS), providing all-weather, 360-degree rapid defence against hostile drones. Fully operational and globally deployed, it offers a modular infrastructure comprised of electronic jammers and sensors and unique artificial intelligence algorithms to effectively secure threatened air space.

FIRE WEAVER: A networked system connecting all battlefield elements in real time, instantly selecting the most relevant shooter for every acquired target. Simultaneously handling multiple targets using AI and data fusion, it enables warfighters to receive and share battlefield data via augmented reality icons on their weapon sights, creating a common situational awareness picture for all participants.
IMILITE: This a tactical module powered by advanced which processes, produces, and distributes infrastructural intelligence, up-to-date GEOINT, and targeting data to meet manoeuvring and combat-level needs.

SPICE: It is a family of stand-off, autonomous, air-to-surface munitions to provide pinpoint accuracy at high attack volumes, independent of GPS navigation, based on autonomous electro-optic scene matching artificial intelligence algorithms. Operational and combat proven in the Israel Air Force and others around the globe, the SPICE family currently consists of the SPICE 250, SPICE 1000, and SPICE 2000 variants.
LITENING-5: One of the world’s most widely used targeting and navigation pod, it incorporates a wide array of sensors enabling target detection, recognition, identification. Known for its ability to shorten the sensor-to-shooter cycle, LITENING provides electro-optical tracking of multiple dynamic and stationary targets. It also provides advanced operational capabilities which enhance the fighter mission and effectiveness of combat range. The pod allows the operation of all types of air-to-surface smart weaponry, including laser-guided, GPS-guided, and EO/IR imaging guided munitions.

RECCELITE: The reconnaissance pod allows for the collection of high-resolution images of wide areas from different spectral bands, either automatically or manually. The pod has the ability to measure precise topology and generate 3D models with real-time data processing and interpretation at ground stations. This advanced E-O system is operational in air forces around the world on a number of aircraft such as F-16, F-18, Jaguar, AMX, Tornado, Typhoon, Gripen, Heron 1 & Reaper.

BNET SDR Family: This family of advanced, tactical broadband IP-MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network) Software Defined Radio (SDR) solutions provides reliable high-speed, low-delay connectivity for broadband data, voice and video on-the-move for ground and airborne platforms, HQs, and dismounted soldiers. These modular, multi-band, multi-channel, net-centric systems support unprecedented data rates and user numbers enabling all land, sea, and air units to participate in a single, seamless, scalable network. This comprehensive communications system includes vehicular (BNET-V), man-pack (BNET-MP) and handheld (BNET-HH) variations, and aerial connectivity for aircraft (BNET-AR) .
