Collins Aerospace Secures Orders for 20 Griffin-2 VDS

Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of Raytheon Technologies Corp., has secured orders for the supply of 20 new Griffin-2 visual display systems (VDS) to be delivered over the next five years.

The company has announced that its new Griffin-2 VDS is set to launch with two undisclosed fast-jet programmes in the Asia-Pacific region.
Building on the success of its Griffin rear-projected dome, the Griffin-2 offers ultra-high resolution, brightness and contrast for an unparalleled 360-degree immersive training experience for military fast-jets.

The VDS is designed in such a way that customers can use multiple projector types and easily modify and upgrade the system to meet the needs for tailored exercises.

The innovative system offers a totally integrated display and image generator at a lower acquisition cost and reduced life-cycle costs.
Combining the performance of the original Griffin, along with the latest technologies, the result is ultrahigh resolution, brightness and contrast for unsurpassed training realism.

In the words of Nick Gibbs, vice president and general manager, Simulation Solutions & Services, Collins Aerospace: “With a 10-year legacy of display-system experience, Collins Aerospace knows the critical role that the VDS plays in training fast-jet pilots and we continued to enhance our offerings with the latest technology and simplified design. The Griffin-2 takes fast-jet training to the next level with increased performance and provides the warfighter the highest fidelity of training in the market.”

Flexibility offers a huge advantage. Griffin-2 is available as a complete, stand-alone visual training solution or it can retrofit the original Griffin system by replacing its projector package and retaining the current dome and support systems.

Griffin 2 builds on the decade-long legacy of the 150 Griffin display systems and their proven excellence in fast-jet training on F-35, F-16, M-346 and Typhoon trainers.

The open display architecture of Griffin 2 enables use of multiple projector types. Griffin 2 can also be tailored for customised training experiences like display resolution, night vision goggles and head-up display.
