Five New Nations Sign Up for IDEX, NAVDEX

The Higher Organising Committee for the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2021), the Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX 2021), and the International Defence Conference, held under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, have discussed preparations for the two exhibitions in their fourth meeting.

IDEX and NAVDEX will be held from February 21 – 25, 2021 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, and the International Defence Conference will be held on February 20 at the ADNOC Business Centre.

The growing popularity of the events could be gauged by the Committee’s announcement that the exhibitions will see the participation of five new countries for the first time in their history: Israel, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Portugal, and Azerbaijan.

These additions take the number of countries participating in IDEX and NAVDEX 2021 to over 60 nations.
Such huge participation demonstrates Abu Dhabi’s international position and its ability to attract a wide range of nations to participate in one of the globally leading events in the defence sector, in spite of the challenging conditions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
IDEX has remained the most strategically important tri-service defence exhibition in the world and is the only international defence exhibition and conference in the MENA region demonstrating the latest technology across land, sea and air sectors of defence.
Over 1,300 companies from across the land, air and marine defence sectors are expected to exhibit in 2021, making the two events a key date in the global defence sector’s calendar.

Visitors will have an opportunity to access an outstanding showcase of the latest industry developments and technologies alongside excellent scope for networking with decision makers, sector experts, and specialists.

The organisers have made it clear that nothing would be left to chance when it comes to health and safety.
The registration processes will be fully digital and precautionary measures will be in place across the venue, including thermal scanners at all entrances, sterilisation and disinfection operations throughout the day, application of social distancing standards, and the wearing of  face masks.

IDEX 2021, NAVDEX 2021, and the International Defence Conference are organised by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces.
The events showcase the newest developments in the defence sector. They will highlight the latest in military technology, fast-tracking the development of the national defence sector. Additionally, the exhibitions forge new strategic relationships between entities attending the event and major international companies specialised in these sectors.

Both the exhibitions and the conference will be discussing how technological adoption can meet shifting global challenges, as well as discussing strategic development that can contribute towards world peace.

Major General Staff Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for IDEX and NAVDEX and the International Defence Conference 2021, elaborated: “The UAE is well known as an attractive and safe destination, ready to welcome visitors from across the world. We anticipate a large turnout at IDEX and at NAVDEX. In spite of the ongoing challenging global conditions, we are ready to welcome the world once again to Abu Dhabi. The UAE has seen a rapid pace of recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. International participants and visitors will have the opportunity to explore the latest in defence and military systems, as well as see some of the most innovative developments in these industries, given the participation of leading international companies.”

Major General Staff Pilot Ishaq Saleh Al-Balushi, Vice Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for IDEX and NAVDEX and the International Defence Conference 2021, commented: “Our previous editions are indicative of the success that IDEX and NAVDEX have had over their history. As we make our final preparations, we have doubled our efforts and we are cooperating with a range of entities in both the private and public sectors. Our work is proceeding according to thorough strategies that will facilitate the welcoming of VIPs, participants, guests, and visitors of the exhibitions. We look to ensure the safety and security of our participants, as well as organising an event that befits the international reputation and stature of the UAE.”

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC, added: “ADNEC’s preparations to host the upcoming edition of IDEX 2021, the Naval Defence Exhibition NAVDEX 2021, and the International Defence Conference are well underway. We are continuing to cooperate with a wide range of relevant authorities, and have implemented a range of precautionary and preventative measures to ensure the health and safety of both visitors and participants. We want to set global benchmarks in the organisation and hosting of international exhibitions, demonstrating Abu Dhabi’s continued status as the region’s capital for business tourism.”

The Higher Organising Committee is working with a range of entities in the UAE to develop this strategic event.
The Committee is studying a range of measures to facilitate the welcoming of international participants, exhibitors, and visitors.
Interestingly, the  2021 International Defence Conference, accompanying the IDEX and NAVDEX exhibitions will be held for the first time as a hybrid event, bringing together experts and specialists from all over the world virtually and on-ground at the ADNOC Business Centre.
Participants will discuss the impact of innovation on the defence sector, alongside exploring how to use technology in the fourth industrial revolution.

The conference will demonstrate Abu Dhabi’s leading role in advancing the global defence sector.  It will demonstrate how international cooperation can lead to new ways for the global sector to face future challenges.

Agreement Signed
ADNEC earlier signed a strategic agreement with ISDEF, the largest Israeli Defence, Homeland Security (HLS), and Cyber Expo, and part of the Avnon Group, as the exclusive promoter of IDEX to Israeli defence, security, and technology companies.
Since the inception of IDEX and NAVDEX, ADNEC has shown an impressive track record in shaping the regional business tourism landscape for the industry.

ISDEF will be the event’s agent in the State of Israel, preparing, organising, and hosting the Israeli pavilion at the exhibition. The agreement is aligned with ADNEC’s strategy and promotes IDEX by increasing partnerships and collaborations with companies and exhibitors globally.
Previously, ISDEF hosted major Israeli companies from the defence and cyber sectors, such as OSG, IWI, NSO Group, Skylock, Elsight, and others, displaying advanced technologies and solutions including cybersecurity, intelligence and IoT, mobile infrastructure, smart sensors, military and police equipment, training, and more.

Al Dhaheri said:  “At ADNEC, we are happy to sign this partnership with ISDEF to introduce a new pavilion to IDEX and NAVDEX 2021. We look forward to working with our new partners, who will help us increase the attendance of both delegates and visitors to this leading regional event. In signing the peace accord between the UAE and the State of Israel, our two nations are opening a new chapter in the business tourism industry.”

Stacy Dotan, Chief Marketing Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Avnon Group, commented: “Following the recent historic peace agreement, I believe that there will be some amazing opportunities between the UAE and Israeli companies in the business and security sectors. I believe that IDEX will provide opportunities for both countries to gain exposure and a deeper understanding of available technologies from both Israel and the UAE, constituting a significant step towards future cooperation between Israeli and Arab industries.”

Matti Weinberg, CEO of ISDEF, said: “This agreement reflects ISDEF’s professional and forward-thinking approach as a major marketing platform for Israel’s innovative cyber security, defence and HLS technologies. This is an important step towards recognition of leading technologies and exports promotion.”
