Raytheon is at the forefront of cybersecurity

Raytheon has been at the forefront in providing cyber security solutions to a variety of segments including defense. After participating in RSA Conference, a highly regarded international IT security event, in Abu Dhabi, Raytheon is taking part at the Dubai Airshow to put the spotlight on cyber threats around the world and how Raytheon’s solutions can address the challenges posed today. Shahzad Zafar, Cyber security Director, Raytheon International Inc. shares his perceptions on the importance of cyber security in an interview with the Nation Shield:

How important is information security in today’s highly connected world?
Cyber security is a challenging threat the world faces today and the solution and approach to addressing these threats is to work together and adopt innovative technologies. Experienced and skilled staff that has complete understanding of your environment, attack surface, and visibility will go a long way in addressing the challenges posed by cyber threats. This will allow for automation of processes and procedures over time to sure up resiliency in your environment.

What are the different industry sectors that took part in the RSA conference? Can you tell us about the interest it has generated in security segment?
The conference had a strong UAE government presence and saw participation from telecom regulatory authority, aerospace and defence, financial services, and healthcare sectors. Various vendors participated in technical track sessions to have discussions and bring thought leadership around hot button topics.

Identity theft is a major threat for businesses as well as individuals. Are you addressing this issue?
The fundamentals of cyber security are confidentiality, availability and integrity of information and that is at the heart of identity related issues. Identity theft from a consumer perspective has been a big concern and there is a lot of awareness about this matter among the youth in the UAE as demonstrated by our survey of millennials we released during the RSA Conference. The survey in UAE shows high awareness of cybersecurity issues generally and high awareness of cybersecurity incidents appearing in news headlines.

How good a job opportunity does cyber security offer for young Emiratis?
Young adults in the UAE are considerably more likely to choose a career in cybersecurity than their peers elsewhere in the world, according to a new survey commissioned by Raytheon, Forcepoint and the U.S. National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA).

The survey discovered that the UAE has been successful in engaging most youth to try activities that would let them test their interest and aptitude for cyber security careers. The country has to thank its visionary leaders for the advancement in bringing such awareness to youth.
The fact that conferences as important as RSA are taking place in the UAE shows the importance the country is placing on cyber security and technological advancement.

What is going to be your focus at the Dubai Airshow?
From a cyber perspective, Raytheon is going to showcase a demo called ‘Every side of cyber’ that will highlight multiple aspects of the importance of cyber security and how it impacts various sectors such as aviation and defense.
