Calidus, an Abu Dhabi-based advanced technology company incorporated recently, is unveiling its new aircraft at the Dubai Airshow which is being described as a major breakthrough in its category.

Fully designed from the ground up to address modern warfare requirements in terms of capacity as well as operating cost, the aircraft has already generated significant interest among regional and international players in the segment.

The B250 light attack aircraft is capable of multi-role operations for modern and asymmetrical warfare and also can be used as a trainer, Hamdan Abdulla Al Shkeili, Chief Software Engineer, Calidus told the Nation Shield in an interview.

“We have brought two aircraft to the show. One will participate in the flight demonstrations and the other will be at static display,” Hamdan said.

“Our aircraft has several advantages, the foremost is that the B250 has an outstanding performance in its category and leading edge avionics and mission systems. Secondly, having low operational cost, which is very important in asymmetrical warfare.

“The first Light Attack Aircraft, developed by Calidus, UAE, underscores the technological strides the country has made in the aerospace sector over the years.

“We are a newly established company and we are closely working with end-users to address their needs,” Hamdan said adding that “B250 is an advanced, multirole aircraft, its IP totally owned by Calidus. The aircraft has started rigorous testing to be ready for its mission.”

He said Al Ain is considered as aerospace hub in the region and the future Calidus facility is being developed to support manufacturing and assembly of the aircraft.

“The B250 aircraft is also a very effective basic and advanced trainer aircraft capable of giving the required training to pilots engaged in modern and asymmetric warfare situations,” he said.

The 100 per cent new aircraft is designed as a multirole platform to address successfully current and future field challenges.

The B250, is a carbon fibre aircraft designed to operate in asymmetric warfare and is capable of coping with modern threats. The aircraft is not only the first military fighter ever developed in the UAE but is one that will raise the bar throughout the region through its leading edge features.
