MARSS Group Signs Landmark NiDAR Deals

MARSS Group, a leading provider of AI-powered security solutions, recently announced several landmark contracts. The first contract is valued at over US$20 million, marking the first time the Group’s NiDAR systems will be operational on combat-facing vessels.

MARSS Group’s NiDAR C2 ‘Command & Control’ system protects assets and people across all domains, including ships and yachts, critical infrastructure sites, operating bases, and civilian urban environments.

2023 marked a big step for the Group as its NiDAR surface, and CUAS air surveillance system was installed and made operational on M/V Asterix, a naval auxiliary ship to the Royal Canadian Navy; the first time NiDAR was put to use on a NATO-associated vessel.

This latest agreement, signed in December 2023, marks yet another milestone, as MARSS Group’s NiDAR platform will be employed on a series of combat-facing vessels for the first time.

The contract, commissioned by a Southeast Asian client, involves the installation of NiDAR and associated sensors by MARSS to multiple Corvette-class vessels. The NiDAR platform will fuse a range of new and legacy sensors – including sonar, navigational radars and infrared cameras – into a single user interface to provide an accurate and rapid means of detecting and classifying underwater and surface threats towards the vessel when in transit, at anchor and at port.

The project, beginning this year, is expected to run until 2029, with the first vessel due for final handover in 2026.

Expanding to combat-facing vessels marks a significant step forward for the Group. Rob Balloch, Chief Growth Officer, MARSS Group, commented: “Following the installation of NiDAR onto a NATO vessel last year, we are thrilled to move into the realm of Navy Corvettes in 2024. It’s a major leap for MARSS Group to find itself on board combat ships for the first time - providing class-leading, cost-effective protection - and we couldn’t be prouder that our NiDAR technology will be on the front line to support and protect those dedicated to our safety and security.”

Yacht Contract Over US$4 Million Awarded
MARSS also announced a contract to deliver its comprehensive CUAS and surface surveillance system, NiDAR, to two yachts - a primary vessel and its support ship.

MARSS started 2024 with a new appointment as the prime contractor delivering NiDAR to a 120+ metre yacht, alongside its 70+ metre support vessel, emanating from the Oceanco and Damen Yachting shipyards in the Netherlands, respectively.

In this role, MARSS will work closely with its partners, including Echodyne and others, to coordinate the installation and intelligent integration of multiple sensors, including  RF detection and CUAS radar systems. The system also uses NiDAR’s sensor-agnostic capabilities, integrating with the vessels’ existing cameras and navigational systems.

All sensors will feed seamlessly into a single tactical picture, delivering advanced situational awareness and protection across surface and air domains, enhanced by NiDAR’s artificial intelligence.

The US$4 million installation also encompasses an array of countermeasures, including loud hailers and searchlights. Having only recently secured the contracts, both contracts are scheduled for delivery within 2024.

Frederik Giepmans, Managing Director, MARSS Maritime, commented: “I am very proud of what the team has achieved during 2023, and these latest contract wins are a testament to their dedication and NiDAR as an industry-leading product. Securing these projects is a great start to 2024, and we look forward to bringing our NiDAR security systems to many more users over the course of this year and beyond.”.
