P&W Wins Korean Fighter Support Deal
Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX, has been granted an F100 engine performance-based logistics (PBL) sustainment contract by South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA).
This contract, with a base value of US $355 million, marks the third consecutive PBL agreement between Pratt & Whitney and DAPA since 2012. It entails continuous maintenance support for the Republic of Korea Air Force’s (ROKAF) F-15 Eagles and F-16 Fighting Falcons.
Sustainment Collaboration
The agreement also represents the latest milestone in the longstanding collaboration between Pratt & Whitney, DAPA, and ROKAF. It aims to enhance depot planning efficiency and elevate overall fleet readiness by implementing long-term material forecasting. The sustainment efforts commenced in December 2023 and are scheduled to continue through the second half of 2027.
“For just over a decade, we have worked with DAPA on these performance-based logistics contracts to establish a more strategic sustainment solution for the ROKAF fighter fleet,” said Chris Johnson, vice president of Fighter and Mobility Programmes at Pratt & Whitney. “These contracts are a win-win for both customers and industry because they offer more efficient affordability and availability.”
Powerful Aircraft Engine
The F100 engine features 5th Generation technology within a fully modular architecture. Boasting over 30 million flight hours, surpassing any other 4th generation fighter engine, and utilised by 23 air forces worldwide, the F100 stands as the most reliable and experienced propulsion solution globally. Its reliability and safety make it a trusted choice in aviation.
The warfighter knows that the F100 engine will perform and allow them to complete their mission and return home safely every time. That’s why there are more than 3,800 F100 engines in 23 air forces around the world.
The F100 presents an unparalleled level of overall capability, making it a pilot’s engine. Its performance is consistently predictable, and it boasts an impressive track record, remaining undefeated in combat with a remarkable 165-0 Air-to-Air Combat Record for F100-powered F-15s and F-16s. Furthermore, support systems are already established at F-16 and F-15 bases worldwide, ensuring efficient maintenance and operational readiness.
Pratt & Whitney’s F100 engines have powered the F-15 for more than 50 years and the F100-PW-229 is capable of integrating with the F-15EX.
