Tailor-made Solutions for Defence in 21st Century

By Jackson Schneider, President and CEO, Embraer Defense and Security

In a world that is in constant transformation, every company must quickly adapt and respond to rapidly changing scenarios. These scenarios include new technologies, communication formats, relationships, economic flows, environmental concerns, and geopolitical trends, all of which are re-shaping the world. Companies must be ready to attend customer’s needs, and in the defence segment, it is no different.

Investments in defence innovation have been extremely fruitful in generating benefits for the private sector in several countries, with visible and tangible effects. This can be seen in the experience of highly qualified workers originating from military academies or research institutes that work on cutting-edge projects for private companies.

To meet these new demands and challenges, Embraer has made investments to offer the best market solutions that go well beyond the aircraft, with customised solutions for air, land, sea, space, and cyber. Known worldwide by our aircraft, such as the multi-mission C-390 Millennium and the light-attack A-29 Super Tucano, Embraer continues to focus on the aeronautic and defence sectors, but is also open to opportunities for more diversification, partnerships, and even new businesses.

Looking forward to future projects, we have signed two memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). The first was established for a study of the potential development of a short take-off utility transport (STOUT) powered by hybrid-electric propulsion. The second is a cooperation for the study of the necessary capabilities for the conceptual design and development of advanced unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV).

Embraer has also signed an agreement with ELTA Systems Ltd (ELTA) to introduce the P600 AEW&C, designed to provide airborne early warning capabilities using the super-midsize Praetor 600 business jet platform.

In terms of new trends, we are seeing the defence sector facing new threats, such as the even more intensive use of cyber and space technology, autonomous applications, and artificial intelligence to attack, influence, or defend countries, companies, and citizens. These new threats create a growing need for cybersecurity solutions.

Therefore, recognising the demand for sophisticated cyber-security solutions for defence, Embraer acquired Brazil-based Tempest Security Intelligence, a complete solution provider for business protection in the digital world. With more than 50 years in the aerospace industry, Embraer has become the “Defence House of Brazil” and a relevant player in the market. With unique and innovative solutions, Embraer is ready to better meet the needs of the global defence market.
