Editorial Team

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a decree appointing His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as a member of the UAE Cabinet, assigning him the Ministry of Defence portfolio, in addition to the position of Deputy Prime Minister.

Nation Shield extends its heartiest congratulations and sincerest wishes to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed on this appointment.

His Highness’s selection for this crucial role, vital for the security and stability of the UAE, is a testament to the confidence of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. Their trust in His Highness Sheikh Hamdan’s ability to continue the journey of development and modernisation, positioning Dubai and the UAE in an advanced status globally, is unwavering.

Since assuming his position in 2006 as Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, His Highness has acquired extensive experience, knowledge, and practical expertise in various fields. Skills in public institution management and expertise in founding and overseeing developmental projects constitute a significant driving force added to the accumulated set of leadership elements and requirements.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed possesses all the necessary qualities in terms of comprehensive military and civilian leadership requirements. Graduating from the United Kingdom’s Sandhurst Military Academy in 2001, he acquired the spirit of discipline and commitment essential for any leadership role. After graduation, His Highness studied Economics and Government Administration.

This paved the way for significant progress and was a quantum leap in executive work in the Emirate of Dubai, leading him to be appointed as the Crown Prince of Dubai in 2008, less than two years after taking over the management of the Executive Council of the Dubai government. During this period, his academic background and knowledge were refined due to practical experience and real-world practice.

In addition to the fundamental role of gaining leadership genes from his father, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, there has been a significant impact from the son accompanying his father in leadership roles, public activities, and involvement in various issues and files.

The UAE has witnessed tremendous successes and historic achievements of its Armed Forces since His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid assumed office as Minister of Defence in 1971. This included the unification of the Armed Forces in 1976, which was a foundational step that paved the way for the development of their military capabilities, training, and planning in the following decades. As a result, the UAE Armed Forces now rank among the most advanced armies in the world.

Nation Shield is confident that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed’s leadership of our Armed Forces as Minister of Defence will be a pivotal addition and a quantum leap in the status and capabilities of our Armed Forces and the military sector in general, given his competencies, qualities, and expertise.
