Dynamic Discussions, Live Demos Lined up for WDS 2024

The World Defense Show (WDS) has disclosed a lineup of distinguished speakers from both indsustry titans and senior government figures. Scheduled for February 4-8 in Riyadh, it is being held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The event will kick off with the Future Defense Leadership Forum on Preview Day, with an address by Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Ohali, Governor of the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI). This will set the stage for four days filled with dynamic discussions, live demonstrations, and expert insights across the main conference room and content theatres in three exhibition halls.
 
Exclusive Event
The Future Defence Leadership Forum itself is an exclusive event, with delegates from the global defence industry, exploring national policy, technology, and innovation, offering insights into Saudi and global defence perspectives. 
 
Keynote addresses include ‘Enhancing KSA’s Investment Ecosystem’ by Khalid Al Falih, Minister of Investment, and a discussion on ‘Defence/Force Readiness’ by General Fayyadh Al Ruwaili, Chief of the General Staff. Ahmed Al Khateeb, SAMI Chairman, will discuss ‘Security and Stability in the New Saudi Era,’ emphasising innovation in defence technology.  
 
The forum will host crucial panel discussions. ‘The People Challenge’ panel, will bring together Prof. Haluk Gorgun, President of SSB, Turkey; Eng. Walid Abukhaled, SAMI CEO; Sulaiman Albabtain, CEO & Chairman of SOFON Industries; and Éric Béranger, CEO of MBDA. 
 
Another key panel, ‘Innovating at the Speed of Relevance,’ will include Dr. Faleh AlSulaiman, Governor of GADD; Dr. Charles Woodburn, BAE Systems CEO; Stephanie C. Hill, Lockheed Martin’s President of Rotary & Mission Systems; and Pierre Éric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of Naval Group.
 
Focus on Innovation
Day 2’s programme will revolve around innovation, featuring industry leaders like Rob Merriweather, Technology Director at BAE Systems, and Chris Brown, Vice President Strategy & Global Business Development at General Dynamics, leading a panel on innovation goals.
 
Tim Cahill, President of Missiles and Fire Control at Lockheed Martin, will delve into exploiting innovation across the battlespace. 
 
General (Retd) Tom Middendorp, Chairman of the International Military Council on Climate and Security and Former Chief of Defence of The Netherlands, will deliver a keynote on environmental sustainability in the defence industry. 
 
Nichola Bates, Managing Partner at Aerospace Xelerated and Head of Global Accelerators and Innovation Programmes at Boeing, will provide insights on Defence Innovation Units and their role in fostering collaboration with startups.
 
Tech Time
On Day 3, technology will take centre stage with Major Gen (Retd.) Adam Findlay addressing civilian-military tech development, Sir Stu Atha on the future of human-machine interface, and Stephanie Hill discussing aerospace and defence transformation.
 
The International Women in Defence programme is back, led by Ambassador Reema, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the United States. The event, featuring Heidi Grant, Vice President of Defense Global Growth & Engagement at Boeing Defense, Space & Security, will include national diversity champions and industry figureheads, including Maj. Gen. Adel Al-Balawi, Head of Armed Forces Education and Training Authority, KSA. 
 
Day 5’s Future Talent programme, led by Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, Minister of Education, will focus on nurturing the next generation of defence professionals. Dr. Alex Walmsley moderates a panel on ‘The Human Capital Growth Model for Defence,’ and Jason Monahan, VP & General Manager at General Dynamics, presents ‘The People Challenge: An Industrial Perspective,’ offering key insights into workforce development.
