EDCC: An effective platform to link up with global players

By:Rosa Maria Panadero Martinez

Sultan Abdulla Al Samahi, the acting general manager of Emirates Defense Companies Council (EDCC), has said that the EDCC has established itself as an effective platform for its members to connect with their international counterparts.

In an interview with the Nation Shield, he says: “The Council started in 2014 with 28 local companies. Today we have 63 members from very different sectors, such as cybersecurity, landforce, airforce, landsystem, and some other domains”. He says  the role for EDCC is to work as a meeting point for all the stakeholders of the industry: “Our main objective  is to be a communication platform to link our EDCC members with the international companies through other international associations,”

“For example,” he says, “EDCC has good relations with  the South Korean  Association to arrange meetings between our members participating at UMEX with their members.” EDCC tries to give more visibility to their members, so a win-win situation is expected for members here and at an international level: “It is an international practice. The communication between associations or councils yield better results as we promotes dialogue among the
key players.”

EDCC expects that its approach will result in a better dialogue and increase exposure of its members abroad, thus yielding economic benefits to their business. “We also target  emiratization and an increase in manufacturing, two important goals.” These goals, Al Samahi thinks, will be achieved through the participation of the EDCC in exhibitions and conferences in defense sector, in addition to workshops and seminars arranged by the Council.

“Globally, the EDCC will be able to introduce the local companies internationally and set up the links the members with international exhibitors to explore new ideas.”
In the medium term from five to ten years from today,  Al Samahi believes that EDCC will positively help its members to increase their return on investments: “I see that the EDCC will work with with strategic stakeholders to promote UAE defense and security industry in the right channel, by helping our members to contribute to the growth of the industry.”
