Slovenia Boosts Air Defence with Diehl’s IRIS-T SLM Systems
The Slovenian Ministry of Defence recently strengthened its air defence capabilities with the procurement of two additional IRIS-T SLM medium-range ground-based air defence fire units.
Each unit includes a radar, tactical operations centre, and missile launchers, along with IRIS-T SLM guided missiles and comprehensive logistical support. The package is further enhanced with mobile workshops, spare parts, and reloading vehicles. This acquisition was concluded under the contractual framework of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI).
Diehl Defence and the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia, signed a purchase contract in July. The initial procurement of one fire unit was done in January 2024.
