Derco, Pratt & Whitney Sign Engine Distribution Pact

In what is expected to offer increased material availability for F100 customers around the world, Lockheed Martin’s unit Derco has announced an agreement to be Pratt & Whitney’s sole and exclusive third party distributor for the F100-PW-220/229 engine system

The agreement will further strengthen Derco’s longstanding relationship with Pratt & Whitney.

The Pratt & Whitney F100 engine powers the F-16 fighter aircraft manufactured by Lockheed Martin. The F-16 “Fighting Falcon” is viewed as a very successful, combat-proven multirole fighter.

In the words of Chauncey McIntosh, Lockheed Martin vice president and general manager of Training and Logistics Solutions: “With 1,522 F-16s flying with Pratt & Whitney F100 engines in 21 countries, this agreement marks a significant step forward in aligning our organisations with a common goal of increasing support to the warfighter worldwide.”

Derco maintains diversified aircraft spares inventories in the world and strong bonds with the premier original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) helps in the endeavour.

“Derco is proud to provide its customers who operate the F100 with comprehensive material sustainment solutions, leveraging strengths across Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin and Derco,” said Mark Konzal, Derco vice president of business development.

Kelly Young, Pratt & Whitney F100 Senior Director, concurs: “We are excited to strengthen our global distribution network by partnering with Derco and working together to ensure the mission readiness of more than 2,000 F100-PW-220 and -229 engines that power aircraft flown by 23 nations.”

Safety Factor
Safety remains a key factor and the F100 fighter engine has a remarkable record on this front, while also scoring high marks on maintenance cost and reliability.

More than 7,200 engines have been produced and over 24 million flight hours recorded.

The F100 engine has benefited from the continued infusion of new technology and continues to meet the demands of the fighter aircraft mission in a world of ever changing threats.

The Pratt & Whitney F100 is seen as one of the world’s safest fighter engines and has set the benchmark in the single engine fighter application. With technology developed for the F119 engine powering the F-22 Raptor, and F135 engine powering the F-35 Lightning II being incorporated into new F100 engines, this propulsion system provides advanced power for F-15 and F-16 aircraft. ‘

The Engine Enhancement Package (EEP) for the F100-PW-229 engine is the latest evolution of the F100 family of fighter aircraft engines.
The EEP makes the propulsion system better by extending the depot service interval up to 40 per cent, taking the average service life between overhauls from seven years to over 10 years. It extends the periodic engine inspection requirement from 4,300 to 6,000 cycles.
