L3Harris and EDGE Launch EO/IR Service Centre in Abu Dhabi

EDGE Group PJSC (EDGE) recently announced the opening of a new WESCAM Authorized Service Center (WASC) at EARTH’s Electro-Optical Centre of Excellence (EOCE) Facility in Abu Dhabi. The WASC is a collaboration between EARTH, an entity of EDGE Group, and L3Harris Technologies.

Managed and operated by EARTH’s locally trained UAE nationals, the 33,000-square-foot cleanroom facility is equipped with special test equipment, resources and technology required to service WESCAM MXTM-Series EO/IR systems. These systems are operated by the UAE’s National Security, Armed Forces, and other regional customers. Combined with EDGE’s in-country experience and mission execution readiness, the facility aims to increase customer operational availability, improve mean time between failures (MTBF), and reduce the maintenance and repair turn-around time.

Omar Al Zaabi, President, Trading & Mission Support Cluster at EDGE, said: “The opening of the WESCAM Authorized Service Center in the UAE strengthens our synergy with L3Harris to enhance the MRO for defence and national security, both locally and globally. The WASC also allows our end-users to take advantage of EARTH’s cutting-edge facilities and solutions, along with L3Harris’ superior technological, engineering, and logistical servicing capabilities. EARTH WASC is committed to delivering the best solutions to fortify our national security and defence capabilities.”

L3Harris’ WESCAM MX-Series of multi-sensor, multi-spectral, electro-optic and infrared (EO/IR) surveillance and targeting systems support intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and target acquisition missions from platforms across the air, land and maritime domains. Field proven, with extensive deployment, WESCAM MX-Series designating systems offer “plug-and-play” installation, as well as high-sensitivity multi-spectral sensors for day, low-light and night-time missions.

EARTH will operate the facility within its EOCE, a leading EO/IR imaging and targeting sensor systems service facility, with L3Harris. The centre’s opening fulfils EDGE’s commitment to forming strategic partnerships, as it leverages its position as the regional leader in advanced technologies in the defence sector.
