Safran Seals High-Flying Contracts at Dubai Airshow

Safran, a prominent participant at the Dubai Airshow held from November 13 to 17, showcased a diverse range of aviation solutions, including the Arrano helicopter engine, the M88 engine powering the Rafale fighter jet, the Euroflir 410 optronic system, and the RAVE AeroConnect In-Flight Entertainment System (IFE).

Safran inked several agreements during the event, which include:
Emirates-Safran Accords
Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, announced a series of contracts awarded to Safran, totalling over US$1.2 billion combined. This includes a US$1 billion deal for the latest generation Safran Seats for Emirates’ new fleet of Airbus A350, Boeing 777X-9, and existing Boeing 777-300 aircraft.

The agreement covers seats for Emirates’ Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X-9 in Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes. These seats boast comfort, privacy, and convenience, featuring spacious layouts, luxurious amenities, stylish interiors, and modern technology across all cabin classes.

The deal marks a substantial export order for a French company and aligns with Emirates’ continuous investment in France and Europe.

Safran Cabin will also supply Galley shipsets for Emirates’ A350 fleet, meeting the airline’s rigorous quality and design standards. These Galleys, for both the A350 and B777-9 fleets, will feature GEMini and NUVO galley inserts, boasting advanced features, efficiency, and technology.

Safran Landing Systems will provide high-performance wheels and carbon brakes for Emirates’ A350 fleet, offering weight savings and improved cooling for quicker turnaround times and increased fleet availability.

Safran Passenger Innovations has partnered with Emirates, offering RAVE AeroConnect Ka solution for broad inflight connectivity, empowering entertainment and provider flexibility. The solution equips 50 Airbus A350, 60 Airbus A380, and 50 Boeing 777X-9 with satcom connectivity.

Safran is also collaborating on retrofit programmes, supplying seats for Boeing 777 and Airbus A380. Safran Landing Systems caters exclusively to Emirates for A380 Nose Landing Gear overhaul. A 10-year service deal with Safran Aerosystems further enhances Emirates’ Boeing 777 systems at their Dubai facility.

Reverser Extension
Egyptair Maintenance & Engineering has extended its service agreement with Safran Nacelles for comprehensive thrust reverser support on 11 Airbus A330ceo planes. Safran Nacelles will provide Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) solutions at its AMES repair station in Dubai. Safran Nacelles’ repair services fall under their NacelleLife support programme, delivering responsive, cost-effective maintenance to keep aircraft operational while minimising expenses.

LEAPing Ahead
Air Arabia, a leading low-cost carrier in the Middle East and North Africa, made a significant move at Dubai Airshow 2023, ordering 240 CFM LEAP-1A engines to power its fleet expansion of 120 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, including the A321XLR.

Scheduled for delivery in 2025, these engines will support the growth plan, enhancing efficiency and environmental impact.

With a remarkable aviation record, the LEAP engines signify Air Arabia’s commitment to innovation in the low-cost carrier sector.

The advanced CFM LEAP engine family provides 15 to 20 per cent better fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions, as well as a significant improvement in noise compared to previous generation engines. Since its entry into service in 2016, the LEAP engine allowed the airline’s customers to save more than 28 million tonnes of CO2.

NacelleLife Service Deal
Safran Nacelles and Saudia sealed a NacelleLife service deal for Saudia’s Airbus A320neo fleet, comprising 35 planes powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines. The agreement guarantees Saudia access to critical nacelle components and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services at Dubai’s AMES repair station.

Aligned with Saudia’s transformation goals, this collaboration underscores the significance of maintaining peak airline operations while effectively managing costs.
Safran Nacelles’ NacelleLife programme complements this vision, offering responsive, cost-effective maintenance.

Engine Maintenance
Air Cairo and CFM International inked a multi-year services agreement, covering maintenance for 28 LEAP engines fuelling their 14 Airbus A320neo aircraft. Having been a CFM customer since 2005, initially adopting CFM56-5B engines for their A320ceo family, Air Cairo’s expanded deal reflects a commitment to sustainability through the efficiency of the LEAP engine.

flydubai’s LEAP Service
flydubai and CFM International agreed on servicing 222 LEAP-1B engines for flydubai’s Boeing 737-8/-9 fleet, including spare engines. The carrier operates 80 Boeing 737 aircraft, comprising 30 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800, 47 Boeing 737 MAX 8, and 3 Boeing 737 MAX 9.
