Vehicles Steer Their Way into Prominence at IDEX

Defence capabilities can never be complete without armoured vehicles. Combining mobility with offensive and defensive abilities, such vehicles have been around for quite a long time in varied forms. The difference, though, is that in modern days they are much more sophisticated, and play a crucial role on the battlefield and other places where they are considered essential.

The 15th edition of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) that concluded in Abu Dhabi on February 25 witnessed enthusiastic participation by reputed local and international companies, which lined up a range of multipurpose armoured vehicles.

Adding to the excitement was the fact that IDEX turned out to be the first major in-person global defence event to take place in the post-pandemic recovery stage.
Several prominent armoured vehicle manufactures including NIMR, Al Jasoor, Otokar, General Dynamics Land Systems, Patria, Nexter, BAE Systems, Oshkosh and Hanwha took part in the event.
Here’s a glance at some of the military vehicles that made their presence at the show.

Ajban and Hafeet
Nimr launched its second-generation Ajban 4x4 and Hafeet 6x6 wheeled armoured military vehicles at IDEX. Technical excellence, dynamic performance, and modular structural design were the highlights.
Featuring advanced blast mitigation and ballistic protection, the new platforms provide high levels of protection in the harshest of environments. Designed to meet the most demanding duty-cycle requirements, the monocoque architecture offers a higher degree of body rigidity that contributes to greater agility and responsiveness.

The MK2 versions boast enhanced maintainability with a significantly reduced timeframe required to remove a vehicle’s power pack – down from 10 hours to just 20 minutes.
Recently, Nimr successfully conducted the first landmine blast tests, in line with international standards, in the UAE desert in collaboration with sister company LAHAB.

The tests were done to demonstrate the effectiveness of the protection levels offered by the Ajban MK2 armoured tactical vehicle. Owing to the superior monocoque design, the vehicle remained intact during both of these powerful blasts. The second-generation vehicles’ high levels of protection provide an added advantage rarely available in other leading armoured vehicles in this class.
