Air India Jets to Get L3Harris Recorders

L3Harris Technologies has secured a landmark deal with Air India, becoming the leading supplier of its state-of-the-art SRVIVR25 Voice and Data Recorders for the airline’s entire B737-8 fleet.

The initial agreement covers 100 aircraft, with the potential to expand to an additional 40 planes, solidifying a strong partnership for the future of aviation safety.

The deal, finalised in April, is the first avionics partnership between L3Harris and Air India since the latter came under the ownership of the Tata Group.

The agreement not only expands the relationship between the two companies but also includes L3Harris providing comprehensive pilot training for Air India’s current and future aviators.

Sustainable Aviation Technology
The SRVIVR25 line features several models tailored to airline needs: from stand-alone Cockpit Voice Recorders (CVR) and Flight Data Recorders (FDR), to combined units and even deployable solutions. Notably, these devices offer an eco-friendly solution with the advanced Underwater Locator Beacon (ULB), which aids in automated distress tracking and the timely recovery of flight data.

The initial phase of the agreement covers 100 aircraft with recorder deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2028. L3Harris has the option to fulfil the needs of an additional 40 aircraft beyond 2028.

Jan Davis, General Manager for Avionics Programs at L3Harris said: “Our partnership with Air India underscores our mutual dedication to advancing aviation safety and performance.
As we move forward with the deployment of our recorders across Air India’s 737-8 fleet, we look forward to enhancing operational efficiencies for the airline while strengthening our collaborative relationship.”

Alan Crawford, President of L3Harris Commercial Aviation Solutions, noted: “We are committed to nurturing long-term partnerships with top-tier customers across the globe. This agreement, alongside Air India’s pilot training programme, is a great example of how L3Harris provides a range of aviation products and services that offer multiple solutions to airline customers.”

Enhancing Flight Safety
Sisirakanta Dash, Chief Technical Officer, Air India, added: “Equipping our B737-8 fleet with the voice and data recorders is a major step forward in our commitment to safety and operational excellence. The extended recording capabilities and the advanced technology that powers these recorders align with our vision for a sustainable and secure future of flight.”

L3Harris boasts a near six-decade legacy in recorder technology. The SRVIVR25 series builds upon this heritage, offering recording times for both voice and flight data. This not only enhances aviation safety but also ensures compliance with the latest regulatory mandates.
