Bell 505 Rings in a New Era for RJAF Training
The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) has officially welcomed its final Bell 505 aircraft, marking the completion of a 10-aircraft order.
The milestone coincided with the graduation of a new cohort of pilot cadets, attended by HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The Bell 505 aircraft will be instrumental to the training of future generation of Jordanian pilots.
“We are thrilled to have completed the delivery of the Bell 505 fleet to the Royal Jordanian Air Force,” said Danny Maldonado, chief commercial officer, Bell. “This partnership underscores our commitment to providing advanced, reliable, and efficient training solutions to our military partners in the region and serves as a true testament to the Bell 505’s capabilities as a military training platform.”
Brig. Gen. Mohammad F. Hiyasat, Commander of the Royal Jordanian Air Force, expressed his satisfaction with the completed fleet and the successful training of the new pilots: “The delivery of the final Bell 505 helicopters represents a milestone in our training programme. These aircraft provide our cadets with the best possible training platform, ensuring they are well-prepared for future challenges.”
Purchase Agreement
On July 6, 2022, the RJAF signed a purchase agreement for 10 Bell 505 helicopters, aimed at enhancing the RJAF’s training capabilities. Bell worked closely with regional partner, BGS, to support this initiative with RJAF.
The first five helicopters were delivered in November 2023, marking the beginning of a new era in rotorcraft training at the King Hussein Air College in Mafraq, Jordan.
Later this year, the RJAF will receive a flight training device and a comprehensive computer-based training package to support both basic and advanced rotorcraft flight training.
The Bell 505 is a five-seat aircraft designed for reliability and efficiency, equipped with the latest technology to meet the demands of modern flight training. The aircraft features a fully integrated Garmin G1000H NXi avionics suite and a Safran Arrius 2R engine with dual-channel Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC), making it an ideal platform for military and commercial training.
The versatile aircraft offers innumerable benefits, combining advanced aerodynamic design and a state-of-the-art engine to enhance the aircraft’s most critical elements: safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Effortless Pilot Experience
The Bell 505 offers an easier flight for pilots. Its high inertia rotor system enhances autorotation capability, while the Garmin G1000H NXi flight deck, featuring twin 10.4” LCD screens, reduces pilot workload.
Optional flight displays increase situational awareness, including the Traffic Advisory System (TAS), Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS), Garmin’s Helicopter Synthetic Vision Technology (HSVT), and the “Pathway in the Sky” display.
Passenger Comfort
The aircraft ensures a more comfortable ride for passengers with forward-facing seats that offer better views during flight. A fully flat floor provides flexible cabin configuration options, while large doors simplify boarding and cargo loading.
Improved visibility enhances situational awareness for everyone on board, and a quieter system meeting Stage 3 requirements from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) contributes to a more enjoyable flying experience.
Designed by a global team of pilots, maintainers, and operators, the Bell 505 delivers an exceptional customer experience with advanced avionics, powerful engines, and decades of reliability.
Its cabin offers enhanced passenger comfort with unobstructed cockpit visibility and panoramic views thanks to unique stadium seating, making every flight more thrilling. Cruising 500 feet above the ground in a Bell 505 is unmatched.
Advanced Flight Systems
The Bell 505 features an Avionics Suite that includes 10.4-inch high-resolution LED displays (GDU 1050H). It offers Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) GPS-based navigation with a moving map, sectional charts, Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) charts, helicopter route charts, and airport facility diagrams.
The aircraft is equipped with a Mode S Transponder with Extended Squitter (ES), Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) Out, and optional ADS-B In. Communication is facilitated by the GMA 350Hc Audio Panel with Bluetooth.
For situational awareness, it includes a Standard Traffic Information System, moving map with obstacles, and terrain. Optional features include Flight Information Services–Broadcast Weather, Synthetic Vision, Helicopter Terrain Awareness Warning System and Traffic Advisory.
An optional two or three-axis autopilot is also available.
