Embraer’s E190F Steals Spotlight at Farnborough
In a show of strength at the Farnborough International Airshow, held from July 22 to 26, Embraer marked a significant milestone. The premier aviation and aerospace event witnessed the highly-anticipated debut of Embraer’s brand-new E-Freighter, the E190F.
The company made a powerful presence, a testament to the positive momentum it had been experiencing across all businesses as it embarked on its 55th-anniversary celebrations.
First Flight
The E190F, a jet converted from passenger transport to freighter (E-Freighter), successfully completed its maiden flight in April at São José dos Campos, Brazil.
The Embraer team conducted a comprehensive evaluation during the two-hour flight, assessing the aircraft’s performance and systems.
Further rigorous testing is planned before the E-Freighter enters commercial operation. The aircraft is owned by Regional One, a U.S.-based leasing company.
The first flight was part of a series of evaluations that Embraer is conducting before the E-Freighter jets enter into operation. The aircraft has already been successful in both ground pressurisation and cargo loading tests.
“The E-Freighter programme opens a new business opportunity for Embraer, meeting e-commerce’s growing global demand for cargo transport and matching the high-tech E-Jets family to an unbeatable operational performance,” says Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer. “We are pleased with E190F’s and E195F’s fast progress during the testing period. These jets will be important tools for our customers and allow them to work with more agile and decentralised deliveries.”
Neto noted that Farnborough was a major stage for the aviation industry and mentioned that his company had looked forward to engaging with customers, partners, and other stakeholders while celebrating its 55th anniversary.
Freighter Range Advantage
E-Jets converted to freighters will have over 50 per cent more volume capacity, three times the range of large cargo turboprops, and up to 30 per cent lower operating expenses than narrowbodies.
Combining capacity under the floor and on the main deck, the maximum structural payload for the E190F is 13,500 kg, while for the E195F, it is 14,300 kg.
Launched in 2022, the E190F and E195F Passenger to Freight Conversions (P2F) programme involved a global network of more than 40 suppliers and over 600 employees that dedicated more than half a million hours to the E-Freighter.
Embraer’s lineup at the mega show highlighted its leading portfolio of aircraft for commercial aviation and defence. This included, besides E190F, the E195-E2, the world’s most efficient and quietest narrowbody; the C-390 Millennium multi-mission military tactical transport; and the A-29 Super Tucano multi-role aircraft, the gold standard for a broad range of missions such as light attack, aerial surveillance and interception, and counterinsurgency.
C-390 Tactical Excellence
The C-390 Millennium is a new generation multi-mission transport aircraft capable of transporting and launching cargo and troops and performing a wide array of missions, including aerial refuelling (fighters and helicopters), resupply, firefighting, medical evacuation, search and rescue, and humanitarian aid.
Since entering service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019 and the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, it has demonstrated its capacity, reliability, and performance.
The fleet has accumulated over 11,500 flight hours, with an operational availability of around 80 per cent and mission completion rates above 99 per cent, showcasing exceptional productivity. The C-390 Millennium attained its Full Operational Capability status from the Brazilian Air Force in 2023, confirming its ability to execute all designed missions.
A-29 Global Dominance
The A-29 Super Tucano is the gold standard for light attack, combat and reconnaissance aircraft. It has been selected by 16 air forces worldwide.
It is a powerful turboprop aircraft known for its rugged and durable design, allowing it to perform operations from unimproved runways and at forward operating bases in harsh environments and rough terrain with a variety of sensors and precision-guided munitions.
With over 500,000 flight hours and more than 60,000 combat hours, the aircraft has achieved a significant record of success in combat and has been called a “game changer” for aircraft effectiveness in close air support as well as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
Inside the Embraer chalet, visitors explored innovation and sustainable aviation technologies, including the Energia Family concept aircraft.
