Otokar Highlights Armoured Expertise at LAAD

Turkey’s renowned global land systems manufacturer, Otokar, showcased its expertise and innovative armoured platforms at LAAD 2024, South America’s premier security and defence exhibition, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil from April 2 to 4. 
 
Otokar presented scaled models of its state-of-the-art tracked armoured vehicle, Tulpar, and Cobra II tactical wheeled armoured vehicle.
 
Visitors to the Otokar booth had the opportunity to gain in-depth insights into the company’s comprehensive lineup of armoured military vehicles. 
 
It highlighted its capabilities in designing and producing its own armoured vehicles, as well as its advanced turret systems. 
 
Additionally, attendees were informed about the company’s unique strengths in land systems, including its expertise in technology transfer and local manufacturing.
 
Mobility & Survivability 
Otokar designs and manufactures a wide range of defence industry products including 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 tactical wheeled armoured vehicles, tracked armoured vehicles, unmanned tracked armoured vehicles as well as turret systems, using its own technology, design and applications. Its products are recognised for their survivability, superior mobility and modularity.
 
As an accredited supplier to both NATO and the United Nations, the company has an impressive global presence with over 33,000 of its military vehicles deployed across more than 40 countries spanning five continents. 
 
These combat-proven wheeled vehicles have proven their mettle in diverse and challenging environments, from rugged terrains to extreme weather conditions, showcasing their reliability and performance in various operational scenarios.
 
Otokar leverages the invaluable experience gained from operating in diverse climates and geographies worldwide. This wealth of knowledge is meticulously integrated into the company’s vehicle development and testing processes, ensuring that their products are not only robust but also tailored to meet the specific demands of different environments and operational requirements.
 
The company stands out with its ability to respond quickly to ever-changing requirements and needs of end users thanks to its design, test, and manufacturing capabilities. It analyses the varied needs and expectations of its users, conducting in-house simulations to understand these requirements thoroughly. 
 
Leveraging its expertise in R&D, engineering, and testing, it develops tailored solutions to meet these demands. Over the past year, Otokar allocated four per cent of its revenue to R&D, underscoring its commitment to innovation.

LAAD holds significant importance for Otokar, especially given South America’s status as one of the company’s key markets. The exhibition provides a valuable platform to engage with both current and potential users, fostering deeper relationships and understanding their evolving needs.
 
Beyond networking and customer engagement, LAAD also serves as a pivotal event to explore industrial cooperation opportunities. This strategic approach aims to create local value-added operations across the region. 
 
Tulpar’s Tactical Mastery 
The Tulpar Modular Armoured Tracked Vehicle stands out with its exceptional mobility, formidable firepower, and robust survivability. Designed as a versatile tracked vehicle, Tulpar offers variants ranging from 28,000kg to 45,000kg to meet both current and future operational requirements of modern armies.
 
It is available in a variety of configurations, including but not limited to light/medium tanks, Infantry Fighting Vehicles, Recovery Vehicles, Mortar Vehicles, Air Defence Weapon Carriers, Fire Support vehicles, and Medical Evacuation units. Despite these diverse roles, they share common subsystems, enhancing maintenance and logistics efficiency.
 
Tested rigorously in challenging climates and on rugged terrains, Tulpar boasts superior ballistic and mine protection, thanks to its modular armour design. 
 
Beyond its impressive firepower and protection capabilities, its high mobility enables it to operate effectively across a wide range of combat environments.  
 
This includes urban areas, built-up regions, light bridges, woodlands, and various terrains, including soft surfaces where traditional main battle tanks with their heavy weight would struggle to operate. 
 
Cobra II Protection
The globally renowned Cobra II offers a winning combination of high protection levels, generous payload capacity, and spacious internal volume.

Its superior mobility is complemented by robust protection against ballistic, mine, and Improvised Explosive Device threats, thanks to its high power-to-weight ratio. This results in outstanding performance across challenging terrains and climates where it’s operated by numerous armies worldwide. 
 
Cobra II can be equipped with a wide array of weapons and mission-specific equipment. It has proven its effectiveness in border protection, internal security, and peacekeeping missions for various users. 
 
The vehicle’s modular design further enhances its flexibility, allowing it to serve multiple roles such as personnel carrier, anti-tank weapons platform, Reconnaissance & Surveillance unit, CBRN reconnaissance vehicle, command control vehicle, as well as for recovery and medical evacuation purposes.
 
By showcasing advanced armoured vehicles and fostering industrial cooperation at the event, Otokar strengthened relationships and offered tailored solutions.
