Poland Inks Deal for AH-64E Apaches

Poland has officially signed a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement to acquire 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache combat helicopters for its KRUK Attack Helicopter programme.

The deal follows a recent offset agreement between the Polish Ministry of National Defence and Boeing, which includes local maintenance and support for the Apache fleet, the creation of training programmes, and the development of a composite laboratory within the Polish defence industry.

“We are honoured that the Government of Poland has placed their confidence in us,” said Vince Logsdon, vice president, International Business Development for Boeing Defence, Space & Security. “The AH-64E Apache helicopters will strengthen Poland’s operational capability and interoperability with the U.S., NATO and allied nations. We look forward to delivering this capability.”

Sustainment Skills Surge
The offset projects aim to enhance the sustainment capabilities of the Polish defence industry, support creation of highly skilled jobs within this field, and facilitate technological advancements, leading to significant economic benefits.

“Poland’s commitment to procure 96 aircraft represents the largest FMS order in the history of Boeing’s Vertical Lift division and will not only make Poland our 19th global Apache customer but the largest operator outside of the United States,” stated Kathleen Jolivette, vice president and general manager, Vertical Lift.

Boeing has been manufacturing the AH-64 Apache for over four decades at its facility in Arizona. The latest iteration, the AH-64E Apache, represents the pinnacle of Apache development, blending a combat-proven design with advanced technologies. The configuration offers a combination of performance, agility, and versatility, making it one of the most formidable attack helicopters in the world.

Today, more than 1,290 Apaches are in active service across the globe, benefiting from comprehensive sustainment and training support provided by Boeing Global Services.
The Government of Poland selected the AH-64E Apache for the Polish Armed Forces’ new attack helicopter fleet in September 2022.

Decades of Dominance
Since the introduction of the AH-64A in 1984 to the current AH-64E, the Apache has maintained its status as an advanced and reliable attack helicopter. Its evolution over the years reflects continuous improvements in technology and capability.

With the aircraft in operation accumulating over five million flight hours, 1.3 million of which have been in combat, the AH-64 Apache represents the backbone of the U.S. Army’s attack helicopter fleet and a growing number of international defence forces.

Scheduled for production until 2028, the AH-64E Apache will remain the primary attack helicopter for the U.S. Army and allies into the 2060s.

As Boeing and the U.S. Army continue to invest in next-generation technologies, the Apache’s affordable Modular Open Systems Architecture will play a central role in Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) battlefields for many years to come.

The AH-64E is the latest configuration of the Apache, designed to operate effectively in MDO environments. The network-centric and fully integrated weapon system, known as the AH-64E Version 6 (v6), includes significant upgrades to the aircraft’s sensors, software, and weapons capabilities, enhancing its performance in challenging battle spaces.

Agility Meets Lethality
Designed for interoperability within the MDO ecosystem, AH-64E Version 6 (v6) is a lethal, survivable and agile system providing the reach, manoeuvrability and performance needed by ground forces and contributes to current and future joint mission success.

The aircraft integrates advanced capabilities by combining onboard and offboard sensors, long-range stand-off weapons, and the necessary connectivity to effectively utilise the full range of tools within the operational ecosystem. This makes it a highly integrated and optimised attack helicopter, tailored for modern combat scenarios.

The modernised Apache builds on the mature, combat-proven AH-64 platform and combines it with the convergence of cutting-edge attack helicopter technologies to deliver greater reach, survivability and lethality.

The Apache’s extended reach, endurance, and payload will seamlessly complement and integrate with both current and future platforms across all domains and environments.
Building on the AH-64E v6, Boeing can leverage active production lines, engineering resources, training processes and logistics infrastructure to quickly and affordably deliver the Modernised Apache.

A Modular Open System Architecture approach to mission computing and systems delivers unprecedented agility and speed in integrating new technologies and capabilities, ensuring lethality and survivability.
