Saab’s Sirius Sensor Sets Sights on Signals

Saab has introduced the Sirius Compact L20C, a cutting-edge passive sensor designed for tactical reconnaissance of communication signals.

The new addition to Saab’s Sirius Compact family of electronic warfare (EW) sensors offers advanced capabilities for detecting, classifying, localising, and tracking enemy troop radios and drone signals.

The Sirius Compact L20C is a NATO-compatible sensor system that provides exceptional operational flexibility in the field of electromagnetic reconnaissance.

With its compact size and advanced features, it is a valuable asset for military forces seeking to gain a tactical advantage on the battlefield.

Remote Operation
The L20C is designed for remote operation, offering ease of use while maintaining a low detectability profile, making it ideal for covert missions.
Its advanced features include high-precision bearing accuracy and state-of-the-art signal processing, ensuring robust and reliable detection of communication signals even in challenging environments.

The sensor enhances situational awareness by contributing to the Recognised Electromagnetic Picture (REP), supporting forces with a comprehensive and real-time understanding of the electromagnetic spectrum, critical for effective decision-making in tactical operations.

The compact form factor and NATO-compatible interfaces of the Sirius Compact L20C enable a wide range of deployment scenarios, offering significant versatility in the field.
It can be easily transported by soldiers, mounted on highly mobile light vehicles, or quickly installed on masts without the need for specialised tools. This flexibility makes it ideal for various tactical environments.

Tactical Integration
It is designed with a focus on software-defined defence principles. This means it incorporates standardised data interfaces that allow for seamless integration with existing command and control (C2) systems. The interoperability ensures that the sensor can be easily integrated into various military operations and provide valuable intelligence and situational awareness.

“Our newest Sirius Compact sensor, L20C, is a milestone within the Sirius Compact family. Our customers will benefit from L20C to always stay ahead of the threats through its capability to track enemy communication signals. In combination with Sirius Compact L20R, it provides users with vital information simultaneously to deliver situational awareness that is of the highest relevance on today’s battlefield,” elaborated Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.
