UAE Forges Space, Defence Alliance

The UAE Space Agency and the Emirates Defence Companies Council (EDCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on finding and supporting business opportunities in both the aerospace and defence sectors.

The partnership was inked on the sidelines of the “Make it in the Emirates” Forum in Abu Dhabi.

It was signed by Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency; and Mona Ahmed Al Jaber, Chairwoman of EDCC.

Salem Al Qubaisi said: “The MoU reflects our commitment to developing advanced industries in the UAE, by cooperating in enhancing our ability to innovate and compete globally. This enables us to support the national economy, and create new job opportunities and sustainable investments in these two leading sectors, to achieve excellence and provide advanced solutions that contribute to promoting the UAE as a leading hub for technology and innovation.”

He added: “This supports the vision and aspirations of the UAE’s leadership in achieving a comprehensive development renaissance over the next 50 years in all sectors, including aerospace and defence industry.”

Mona Al Jaber stated: “The MoU represents a significant step forward in fostering collaboration between the aerospace and defence sectors in the UAE. By collaborating with the UAE Space Agency, we can leverage the expertise and capabilities of both industries to create new business opportunities, drive innovation, and support the UAE’s overall economic development.”

Combined Strengths
This MoU leverages the combined strengths of the UAE Space Agency and EDCC to drive economic growth and diversification in the UAE. It explores potential synergies between the aerospace and defence industries.

The Space Agency will work with EDCC to identify space-related business opportunities that align with EDCC members’ capabilities and interests. The collaboration also aims to unlock opportunities in defence and related industries, boosting the UAE’s economy.

The two parties will work together to promote education and skill development in defence and space-related technologies among local talents. This will encourage innovation and boost local capabilities in these critical sectors.

The MoU establishes a framework for the exchange of information and best practices between the two sectors. The agreement aims to enhance the competitiveness of both industries by facilitating joint efforts in areas such as procurement strategies, technology development initiatives, and leveraging synergies between defence and space-related capabilities.
The parties will collaborate to support each other’s participation in defence events, forums, and sponsorships. This will also provide opportunities for networking and knowledge-sharing.
